Emma’s Relocation Story: From Long‑Term Dream to Teaching in Australia

Relocating to Australia had always been a goal for Emma and her family.

“It has always been a dream for my family to relocate to Australia,” she says.

After finding Prospero Teaching online, Emma began the process of applying for teaching roles overseas, supported closely by the Prospero team from the outset.

Support Through the Process

Emma first connected with Adriana, who helped her prepare a CV and video profile to send to schools. From there, Laura supported Emma throughout the application and interview stages.

“Laura was fantastic from start to finish. Adriana got in contact with me initially and supported me in putting a CV and video together to send to schools. Laura supported me in applying for the position, questions before the interview and just simply being on hand via the phone, what’s app and email.”

Challenges Along the Way

The journey wasn’t quick. Emma and her family spent time and money waiting on visa pathways that ultimately stalled, despite the demand for teachers.

“I spent time and money waiting for a 189/190 which even though Australia as desperate for teachers, they seems to be a pause. So we started this journey three years prior.”

Things eventually progressed.

“Then I got the job November, sold the house and moved out for term 2 after Easter.”

Settling Into a New School

Since starting her role, Emma has felt welcomed and supported by her new workplace.

“The school and community have been very welcoming. Two days of training before starting teaching, goodies provided and extremely supportive staff.”

So far, the role has lived up to expectations.

“Absolutely loving it, so far so good.”

Life Outside the Classroom

For Emma, the biggest reward has been the impact the move has had on her children.

“My children have not stopped saying, thank you for bringing me here mum. Watching their faces playing in their pool, in the garden and watching the beautiful sunset, we keep thinking - wow, we’ve really done it.”

Advice to Other Teachers

When asked what advice she would give to others considering a similar move, Emma is clear:

“If you have the urge, do it! You can always go back. Life is too short to live with regret and better things might be coming.”
