Melbourne CBD | Independent School
Full-Time | Monday–Friday | 8:00am–4:00pm | 38 hours per week
Immediate Start

Prospero Teaching is working in partnership with an outstanding independent school in Melbourne’s CBD to appoint an experienced and highly organised Accounts Receivable Officer.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an accounts professional who enjoys working in a people-focused environment and would like to bring their financial administration skills into a busy and welcoming school community.

The role has a strong focus on accounts receivable, while also involving regular communication with families, staff and school leadership.

The Role
Working as part of the school's administration team, you will take responsibility for the day-to-day management of accounts receivable while providing a professional and approachable service to families.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Managing accounts receivable processes
  • Raising and processing invoices
  • Monitoring outstanding accounts and following up payments
  • Allocating and reconciling payments
  • Maintaining accurate financial records
  • Responding to family enquiries regarding fees, accounts and payments
  • Liaising professionally with parents and carers regarding outstanding balances
  • Preparing reports and providing accurate financial information
  • Assisting with account reconciliations and general finance administration
  • Maintaining accurate records within school systems
  • Working closely with the wider administration and finance team
  • Supporting school leadership with accounts-related queries and information
  • Providing general administrative support where required
This is a school-based, people-facing accounts role, so excellent communication and relationship-building skills are just as important as strong financial administration.

Working Within the School
The successful candidate will work on-site Monday to Friday, 8:00am–4:00pm, 38 hours per week.
The school is looking for someone who enjoys being part of a community and is comfortable working closely with families, teaching staff, administration and leadership.
The role is particularly suited to someone who takes pride in providing a professional, helpful and friendly service while maintaining appropriate confidentiality and financial accuracy.
There is some flexibility around the non-term periods, with the expectation that the successful candidate will be present during term time when students and teaching staff are on-site.

Systems Experience

Experience with Synergetic and Alii would be highly advantageous.
The school recognises that these systems are relatively specialised and that experience with both platforms is not common outside the education sector.
Experience with other finance, accounts or student management systems will also be considered, provided you are confident learning new platforms and processes.

About you
We are looking for someone who is:
  • Experienced in accounts receivable
  • Highly organised and detail-oriented
  • Confident with financial administration and reconciliations
  • Comfortable managing outstanding accounts and payment follow-ups
  • Professional and confident communicating with families
  • Approachable, friendly and service-focused
  • Able to maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive financial information
  • Accurate and methodical in their work
  • Comfortable managing competing priorities
  • Proactive and able to work independently
  • A strong communicator who works well within a team
  • Confident learning new financial and school-based systems

Previous experience working within a school, education or school environment would be highly regarded but is not essential.
