Prospero Teaching is partnering with a leading independent school in North West Sydney to recruit an exceptional Head of Department – English to lead the English faculty from Term 1, 2027.
The opportunity
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced English educator to provide strategic and instructional leadership within a well-established faculty.
As Head of Department – English, you will:
- Lead and develop the English department, promoting excellence in teaching and learning.
- Provide strategic direction for curriculum planning, assessment and faculty improvement.
- Mentor, support and develop teaching staff through professional learning and instructional leadership.
- Drive strong academic outcomes across secondary English.
- Oversee curriculum delivery, assessment and reporting in line with NESA requirements.
- Use student achievement data to inform teaching and department priorities.
- Foster a collaborative, professional and high-performing department culture.
- Support the development of engaging, contemporary and differentiated English programs.
- Contribute to broader academic planning and whole-school initiatives.
- Support student wellbeing, character development and positive learning outcomes.
About you
We're looking for someone who:
- Holds current NESA accreditation at Proficient level or above.
- Holds a relevant teaching qualification.
- Has extensive experience teaching English across secondary year levels.
- Has previous experience in a Head of Department, Head of Faculty or comparable leadership role.
- Has strong knowledge of the NSW English curriculum and NESA requirements.
- Demonstrates strong instructional leadership and people management skills.
- Can effectively mentor and develop teachers at different stages of their careers.
- Is highly organised, collaborative and committed to continuous improvement.
- Demonstrates a strong commitment to student achievement, wellbeing and character development.
- Is comfortable working within an Anglican educational environment and supporting its Christian values.
