The opportunity As Head of Department - English, you will provide strategic and educational leadership for English across Years 7–12, leading a talented and experienced team of educators and championing a culture that inspires a genuine love of literature, language and learning. Key responsibilities will include:
Provide strategic direction and leadership for the English Faculty across Years 7–12
Lead the development and implementation of rigorous, engaging and contemporary English curriculum and pedagogy
Drive high standards of teaching, learning and student achievement
Maintain and further strengthen strong HSC outcomes across English Standard, Advanced, EAL/D and Extension courses
Lead, mentor and develop teaching staff through coaching, professional learning, collaboration and meaningful feedback
Use student achievement data, contemporary research and evidence-informed practice to identify opportunities for improvement
Oversee curriculum planning, assessment, reporting and faculty operations
Foster a culture of intellectual curiosity, critical thinking and high expectations
Support the continued development of IB English as part of the school’s dual HSC and IB pathway offering
Work collaboratively with senior academic leaders and contribute to broader school improvement priorities
Participate actively in the pastoral and co-curricular life of the school
The school introduced the IB Diploma Programme in 2025, providing the incoming Head of English with the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of the IB English curriculum alongside established HSC pathways. About you We are seeking an accomplished English educator and inspiring leader who:
Holds recognised secondary teaching qualifications and appropriate NESA accreditation
Has extensive experience teaching English across secondary year levels, including Stage 6
Demonstrates proven experience in faculty, curriculum or educational leadership
Has a strong understanding of HSC English curriculum, assessment and quality teaching practice
Can inspire, mentor and develop a high-performing team of educators
Demonstrates a strong commitment to evidence-informed practice and continuous improvement
Possesses outstanding communication, organisational and relationship-building skills
Maintains high expectations for both staff and student achievement
Has the strategic vision to further develop an already successful English program
