Learning Diversity Coordinator – Secondary Campus (Years 7-12)

Prospero Teaching is partnering with a respected Catholic College in Melbourne that is seeking an experienced Learning Diversity Coordinator. This is an exciting opportunity to make a direct impact on students with diverse learning needs, as well as to help shape the future of inclusive education at a vibrant and forward-thinking school. The role includes a teaching load of two classes, with the remainder of the time dedicated to overseeing the learning support for students with additional needs, in one of the college's Houses.

Emmaus College is committed to providing personalized education that empowers students to reach their full potential. The Learning Diversity Team plays a key role in ensuring inclusive practices and creating a tailored learning environment for students with diverse needs.

Key responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and support learning diversity across Years 7-12, focusing on students with learning needs, including those requiring additional support, integration assistance, and curriculum adjustments.

  • Develop and implement Personalised Learning Plans (PLPs), ensuring the needs of each student are met through individualised support strategies and curriculum differentiation.

  • Work closely with the Director of Learning Diversity, alongside other teaching staff, to ensure that learning adjustments and inclusive practices align with the College’s strategic goals.

  • Facilitate student assessments and data collection, ensuring that appropriate interventions are in place and meeting the requirements of the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on Students with Disabilities (NCCD).

  • Liaise with external agencies (e.g., speech pathologists, psychologists) to provide additional support where required and ensure the best outcomes for students.

  • Monitor the placement of Learning Assistants, ensuring their support is effectively matched to the students’ needs.

  • Guide and support staff in implementing differentiated teaching strategies and inclusive practices within the classroom.

  • Facilitate transitions for students with learning needs, ensuring a smooth integration into Year 7 and across other year levels.

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of school-wide inclusive education policies that are in line with current disability legislation.

Skills and experience required

  • Qualifications: A teaching qualification (e.g., Bachelor of Education) and full registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT).

  • Experience: Experience in learning diversity, including working with students requiring support and adjustments in their learning.

  • Leadership: Strong leadership skills with the ability to collaborate and support teachers in implementing inclusive teaching strategies.

  • Knowledge of NCCD: Familiarity with the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on Students with Disabilities (NCCD) and understanding of required practices and documentation.

  • Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to engage with students, parents, and staff, as well as external agencies.

  • Commitment to child safety: A strong commitment to providing a safe and supportive environment for all students, in line with child safety standards.

Additional Information

  • Position of Leadership: This role includes a Position of Leadership (POL 2) allowance and time release.

  • Time Allocation: The Learning Diversity Coordinator receives a substantial time release to fulfil their responsibilities.

  • Catholic Accreditation: Teachers are expected to hold or be working towards an Accreditation to Teach in a Catholic School.
