Prospero Teaching is currently supporting a well-established K–12 community school in Zetland, Sydney in their search for a compassionate and dedicated Primary Teacher to join their team and support a Year 5 class.

This is an excellent opportunity for a teacher who is passionate about creating a positive, inclusive and engaging classroom environment and who can provide stability and consistency for students during a period of transition.

The successful applicant will take responsibility for a Year 5 class of approximately 25 students. The class has a range of learning needs and backgrounds, and the role requires a teacher who is confident stepping into an established classroom environment and providing reassurance, structure and emotional support following the unexpected departure of their previous teacher.

Key Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging and differentiated lessons aligned with the NSW Curriculum.
• Provide stability, routine and positive classroom management during a period of transition.
• Build strong relationships with students and support their academic, social and emotional wellbeing.
• Develop inclusive learning strategies to support students from diverse cultural and language backgrounds.
• Support EAL/D learners through effective differentiation and scaffolding.
• Create a culturally responsive classroom environment where all students feel valued and included.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues, support staff and leadership.
• Monitor student progress and provide meaningful feedback.

Ideal candidate:

The successful teacher will:

• Be an experienced Primary Teacher or confident graduate teacher.
• Have experience teaching upper primary students (Year 5 experience desirable).
• Hold strong classroom management skills.
• Be nurturing, patient and able to build trust quickly.
• Have experience or confidence supporting diverse learning needs.
• Understand the importance of culturally responsive teaching.
• Be adaptable and able to step into an established classroom environment.
• Demonstrate strong communication and teamwork skills.

This role requires someone who understands that students may need additional reassurance and emotional support following the sudden change in their classroom teacher. The successful candidate will be someone who can acknowledge this transition, maintain consistency and help students feel secure, confident and ready to learn.

CONTRACT INFORMATION

Location: Zetland, Sydney
Workload: Full-time preferred
Contract Type: Fixed-term contract
Salary: In line with NSW teaching award + superannuation

To be eligible through though Prospero Teaching, you must:

✅ Hold a recognised Primary Teaching qualification (Bachelor of Education or equivalent)
✅ Be registered with NESA (or eligible for registration)
✅ Hold a valid NSW Working With Children Check (WWCC)
✅ Have full working rights in Australia
✅ Provide two professional, child-related references
