Prospero Teaching Australia is seeking a caring, responsible and community‑minded Residential House Mother to join a small, close‑knit boarding team at a well‑established independent day and boarding school located in a beautiful semi‑rural setting in the Scenic Rim.


This is a vital pastoral role supporting the wellbeing, safety and daily routines of boarding students, helping to create a warm, structured and nurturing “home away from home”.

About the Role
The Residential House Mother works as part of a small boarding team, acting in loco parentis to ensure the wellbeing, safety and positive development of all boarders. You will work alongside another Dorm Parent during active supervision hours and be responsible for maintaining routines, supporting behaviour expectations, and fostering a caring, respectful residential environment.


This role oversees both male and female boarders in shared spaces, with primary responsibility for the female boarding areas.


Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and support students within the boarding house.
  • Promote student wellbeing, safety and positive behaviour.
  • Maintain structured routines (wake-up, meals, study, recreation, bedtime).
  • Communicate effectively with parents, staff and boarding leadership.
  • Maintain accurate wellbeing, incident and daily records.
  • Monitor hygiene, presentation and adherence to school standards.
  • Support homework and liaise with teaching staff when required.
  • Oversee chores and maintain a clean, safe boarding environment.
  • Respond appropriately to wellbeing or behavioural concerns.
  • Be on-call overnight for emergencies.
Hours of Work
Active Supervision:
  • Mon–Fri: 6:30am–8:30am
  • Mon–Thu: 2:45pm–10:30pm
  • Sun: 4:00pm–10:30pm
On-Call:
  • 10:30pm–6:30am

Two Dorm Parents are rostered during active supervision periods to ensure student safety and support.


About You
You are calm, nurturing and professional, with a genuine commitment to supporting young people in a residential setting. You understand child protection requirements and feel confident managing routines, behaviour and wellbeing concerns.


Essential Requirements

  • Current Blue Card (QLD).
  • Current First Aid Certificate.
  • Open C Class Driver’s Licence.
  • Understanding of child protection legislation.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred
  • Qualification in Education (highly regarded).
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working with children or young people.
  • Experience in boarding, residential care or youth work (highly regarded).
