Prospero Teaching are proud to be partnering with an innovative neuroaffirming independent school in Sydney's west to recruit compassionate and dedicated School Learning Support Officers (SLSOs) for its new purpose-designed campus opening in 2027.

This is a unique opportunity to join a founding team and help shape a school specifically designed for neurodivergent learners from Kindergarten through to Year 13.

With small class sizes, high staff-to-student ratios, sensory-aware learning environments and personalised learning pathways, the school is committed to creating an environment where every student feels safe, understood, valued and supported to thrive.

The opportunity

As an SLSO, you will be an important member of a multidisciplinary team, working alongside teachers, therapists, psychologists, wellbeing professionals and families to provide individualised support for students.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting neurodivergent students to access, engage with and enjoy their learning
  • Helping establish structured, calm and predictable classroom routines
  • Supporting the implementation of individualised learning and support plans
  • Assisting students with communication, emotional regulation and transitions throughout the school day
  • Using visual supports, sensory tools and appropriate co-regulation strategies
  • Embedding recommendations from teachers, therapists and allied health professionals into day-to-day practice
  • Building safe, consistent and trusting relationships with students
  • Preparing classroom resources and adjustments to meet individual learning needs
  • Observing student engagement and progress and providing meaningful feedback to teachers and the wider support team
  • Working collaboratively with families and multidisciplinary professionals to support individual student outcomes

This is a highly relational role where your understanding of each student, and your ability to provide calm and consistent support, will make a genuine difference to their experience at school.

About you

We are looking for Learning Support professionals who bring patience, empathy and a genuine commitment to working with neurodivergent young people.

Ideally, you will have:

  • A Certificate III or IV in School Based Education Support, Learning Support or equivalent, or be currently undertaking a relevant teaching or allied health degree
  • Previous experience working within a school or educational environment
  • A strengths-based and neurodiversity-affirming approach
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills
  • Confidence supporting individual learning plans and classroom adjustments
  • An understanding of visual supports and sensory regulation strategies
  • A calm, consistent and emotionally regulated approach when supporting students
  • A willingness to engage in coaching, reflective practice and ongoing professional learning
  • Strong reliability, professionalism and a collaborative approach
  • A current Working with Children Check
