Students enrolled at the school meet the Victorian Government criteria for specialist intellectual disability settings, including:
Formal diagnosis: Documented intellectual disability
IQ Score: 70 or below
Adaptive behaviour: Standard score of 70 or below, demonstrating significant deficits in daily living skills
Comprehensive assessment:
Cognitive assessment
Vineland (or equivalent adaptive behaviour assessment)
Supporting documentation from qualified professionals (e.g. paediatrician, psychologist, speech pathologist)
This ensures teachers are working within a specialised environment designed specifically to support students with significant cognitive and adaptive learning needs.
We are seeking passionate Special Education teachers across primary and secondary year levels.
Programs are highly individualised and may include:
Modified Victorian Curriculum delivery
Personalised Learning Plans (PLPs)
Life skills and functional academics
Communication-focused teaching strategies
Positive Behaviour Support frameworks
Senior pathways including Victorian Pathways Certificate, ASDAN, workplace skills and community-based learning
Teachers work collaboratively with allied health professionals, education support staff and leadership teams to provide holistic student support.
The ideal candidate
Experience in special education or strong interest in transitioning into specialist settings
Skilled in differentiation and explicit instruction
Confident implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs/PLPs)
Understanding of intellectual disability and adaptive learning needs
Strong behaviour support and classroom management strategies
Highly collaborative and student-centred approach
Current VIT registration (or eligibility)
Purpose-driven teaching with measurable impact
Supportive leadership and multidisciplinary teams
Strong professional development in special education practice
Clear senior and vocational pathway programs
