Prospero Teaching is seeking a passionate and committed Special Education Needs (SEN) Teacher to join a School for Specific Purposes (SSP) in Western Sydney. This is a unique opportunity to work with young men (15 years and older) in a secure education setting, many of whom experience complex learning needs, educational disruption, and social-emotional challenges.
About the school
This SSP provides education and training in a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment. Programs are tailored to meet individual student needs and include:
Trade and vocational programs such as concreting, bricklaying, barbering, plumbing, and hospitality
Automotive training with practical experience on donated engines and vehicles
Hands-on facilities including a trade training centre, horticulture spaces, café, and music studio
Academic and life-skills programs designed to address gaps in prior education
The school supports up to 90 students at a time, many with disrupted educational histories, offering a meaningful opportunity to make a difference in students’ academic and personal development.
About the Special Needs teaching role
As a SEN Teacher, you will:
Deliver engaging, differentiated learning programs tailored to students with diverse learning needs
Apply evidence-based strategies to support students with special educational needs, neurodiverse learners, and social-emotional challenges
Collaborate closely with education staff, welfare personnel, and community partners to provide holistic support
Foster inclusive, safe, and supportive classroom environments that promote positive learning experiences and personal growth
The ideal candidate will:
Hold relevant secondary teaching qualifications (e.g., B.Ed., M.Teach)
Be registered or eligible for registration with the Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT)
Demonstrate experience and strong pedagogy in special education needs, differentiated instruction, and inclusive practices
Be committed to supporting students with complex learning and behavioural needs
Have a genuine passion for empowering students and helping them achieve educational, vocational, and personal goals
