Prospero Teaching is proud to be partnered with a highly supportive P–12 specialist school in Melbourne's west, seeking a passionate Secondary Special Education Teacher to join their team.
This is a rewarding opportunity for a secondary teacher who wants to work in a specialist setting supporting students with intellectual disabilities, autism and additional learning needs.
The school provides a highly structured and individualised learning environment, with small class sizes, strong Education Support and access to allied-health professionals.
You will have the opportunity to focus on meaningful student development, building not only academic skills but also communication, confidence, independence, life skills and preparation for life beyond school.
Deliver individualised learning programs and IEPs tailored to student needs
Plan and deliver differentiated secondary curriculum across relevant subject areas
Support literacy and numeracy development at an individualised level
Support communication, social skills and emotional development
Implement strategies for students with sensory, behavioural and communication needs
Embed academic learning into functional, real-world situations
Create positive, structured and engaging classroom environments
Work collaboratively with Education Support staff and allied-health professionals
Contribute to positive behaviour support strategies
Develop student independence and self-management skills
Support students with community participation and workplace-readiness skills
Contribute to transition, career and post-school pathway planning
We are looking for a Secondary Teacher who is:
VIT registered or eligible for registration
Experienced in, or genuinely interested in, Special Education / Inclusive Education
Skilled in differentiation and adapting learning to individual needs
Confident supporting diverse and complex learners
Strong in classroom management and relationship building
Patient, adaptable and student-centred
Passionate about helping students achieve meaningful progress
Interested in supporting young people to develop greater independence and prepare for life beyond school
Specialist-school experience is highly regarded but is not essential. This is also an excellent opportunity for a mainstream Secondary Teacher looking to transition into specialist education.
