About the Role

Prospero Teaching is proud to be partnered with a highly supportive P–12 specialist school in Melbourne's west, seeking a passionate Primary Special Education Teacher to join their team.

This is a rewarding opportunity for a primary teacher who wants to work in a specialist setting supporting students with intellectual disabilities, autism and additional learning needs.

The school provides a highly structured and individualised learning environment, with small class sizes, strong Education Support and access to allied-health professionals.

You will have the opportunity to focus on meaningful student development, building not only academic skills but also communication, confidence, independence and life skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver individualised learning programs and IEPs tailored to student needs

  • Plan and deliver differentiated primary curriculum across literacy and numeracy

  • Support communication, social skills and emotional development

  • Implement strategies for students with sensory, behavioural and communication needs

  • Embed literacy and numeracy into functional, real-world learning

  • Create positive, structured and engaging classroom environments

  • Work collaboratively with Education Support staff and allied-health professionals

  • Contribute to positive behaviour support strategies

  • Develop student independence and self-management skills

  • Support students' social development and participation

  • Contribute to transition and future pathway planning where appropriate

About You

  • Skilled in differentiation and adapting learning to individual needs

  • Confident supporting diverse and complex learners

  • Strong in classroom management and relationship building

  • Patient, adaptable and student-centred

  • Passionate about helping students achieve meaningful progress

Specialist-school experience is highly regarded but is not essential. This is also an excellent opportunity for a mainstream Primary Teacher looking to transition into specialist education.

Why Apply?

  • Small class sizes with strong Education Support

  • Work alongside Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers and other allied-health professionals

  • Highly individualised teaching and learning

  • Strong focus on student growth, independence and wellbeing

  • Collaborative and supportive leadership team

  • Opportunity to develop your Special Education teaching experience

  • Work within a structured P–12 specialist-school environment
